1. What is Title VI?

“No person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity for which the Recipient receives Federal financial assistance.” - Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Title VI states that everyone, regardless of race, color, or national origin, should have the opportunity to receive the same level of program services, aids and benefits; that the services, aids, and benefits should be provided in a consistent manner to all persons; and that no individual should be treated separately in any manner related to the receipt of that service, aid or benefit either directly or through contractual means.

2. Who may file a Title VI Complaint?

Complaints may be filed by any individual or group who believes that their rights under Title VI have been violated in a discriminatory manner; SPORTRAN’s programs, services, or activities do not comply with federal civil rights laws; or they have been treated in a disparate manner with regard to race, color, or national origin.

Title VI complaints generally are a signed, written complaint that is filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.
